About the game
Recess. Five gonggi stones on your desk. Scatter, toss, pick up and catch them with a physics-driven hand. Play from Onesies to the Flip on your own or against your seatmate or a Steam friend, and between rounds get up to doodle on the chalkboard and play the reed organ.
Descripción original de Steam
Recess in a 2000s Korean elementary school classroom. Play gonggi, the Korean game of jacks, with five stones on your desk, and mess around with everything in the classroom and out on the playground.
Gonggi with your own hand
- Move your hand with the mouse and play with just the left button. Hold and release to scatter and toss, and click while a stone is in the air to pick one up.
- Bring your hand under a falling stone and it closes to catch it.
- Onesies through Foursies, then the Flip. In the Flip you catch the stones on the back of your hand and snatch them, and every stone you snatch earns you a "year".
- Your fingers wrap around the shape of the stones you hold, and wherever the scattered stones roll to a stop becomes that round's layout.
- Tossed stones stay in the air two to three times longer than in real life. Choose how long with the difficulty setting.
With your seatmate, with a friend
Play rock-paper-scissors with your seatmate to decide who goes first, then take turns. When someone reaches the agreed number of years, the school bell rings, and the loser gets a flick on the wrist for every year they were behind.
At the end you each receive a certificate: the Gonggi King Award, the Effort Award or the Friendship Award. You can also invite a Steam friend for a 1-on-1 match online.
The classroom at recess
Get up from your chair and walk around the classroom. There are more than 70 things to touch in the classroom and on the playground.
- Play the reed organ, blow a recorder, and look at the photos from a disposable camera on the TV.
- Fly paper airplanes, race a Mini 4WD, and wind up a rubber band plane to send it flying.
- Everything you touch for the first time gets written down in your notebook. In a room with a friend, you share the things in the classroom.
Write on the chalkboard with chalk, wipe it with the board eraser, and dust the eraser off in the eraser cleaner.
On the playground, ride the swings and the seesaw, launch water rockets, and fill water balloons at the drinking fountain.
On your own, too
- Practice: repeat any stage you pick with no chances to lose. If you miss, you try the same layout again.
- Class Tour: go from Class 1 to Class 6, each with its own rules, playing from Onesies to the Flip. You have three chances, and clearing a class gives one back.
- Play on a classroom desk, on the floor at the back of the classroom, or on the playground. Choose glitter stones, hexagon stones, pebbles or eraser bits.
- In Change Clothes, pick your hair, clothes, hat and glasses, and the name you write in your dictation notebook goes on your name tag.
