About the game
Autumn, 1999. Your friends are missing somewhere on the Hollow Moors, and the fog won't lift. Chop wood, gather supplies and keep the fire burning through the short days. Survive the long nights as boggarts and the mysterious lampers try to put your fire out before the century turns.
Original Steam description
Halloween, 1999. A camping trip on the Yorkshire moors takes a turn when the fog rolls in and your friends disappear. Keep your fire burning, survive the nights, and find out what's waiting beyond the light.
I've always wanted to make a game.
I'm a developer, but I'd never made a game before. I started vibe coding something small that I could play with my wife and kids, and ended up enjoying it far more than I expected.
I've rebuilt it three or four times since, learning Blender, editing models by hand, rewriting systems and slowly putting together a story. It's taken up a lot of my spare time, but I've loved making it.
The Hollow Moors has become a bit of a love letter to Yorkshire, where I grew up, and to the games I've enjoyed playing over the years. The landscapes, the folklore, the old railway lines and the miserable British weather all have a place in it.
It's still a work in progress, and I'm still figuring things out, but it's become something I'm genuinely proud of.
I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I've enjoyed making it.
