Original Steam description

Build roads. Grow an economy. Hold your land.

Wainhold is a competitive economic strategy game in the spirit of the golden age of RTS, built from scratch: a deep economy, a living, changing world and fair competition in one system — against the AI, in a story campaign, or against other players. You never order a settler around. You lay roads and flags, place buildings and set priorities, and the settlers do the rest. Once your economy holds, your soldiers move the borders.

An economy you can see

Every ware is carried by hand along your roads, flag to flag. Logistics, not clicks, decides who holds out: slopes slow carriers down, crowded flags show where the network chokes, and pack animals help on busy roads.

  • Long production chains. Timber and stone, farms, mills and bakeries, fishing and hunting, mines and smelters, toolmakers, weapons and armour, and a mint.
  • Workers need tools. Warehouses keep the stock you set and send the surplus on.

A world that changes

Seasons matter to your economy: fields grow in the warm months and lakes freeze in winter. Forests regrow, fish recover slowly and wild animals roam in herds.

Day and night, rain, snowfall and storms bring the land to life. Settlers rest at night while windows and lanterns glow. Weather is visual only and can be turned off.

Across the sea

Build harbours and shipyards, carry goods by ship, send expeditions to found colonies, and attack enemy harbours from the water.

Built for fair competition

Land changes hands only by force. Military buildings claim territory, soldiers train through six ranks, and you command the army through buildings and attack orders: pick an enemy building, how many soldiers to send and whether the strong or the weak go. No unit micro.

  • Same rules for everyone. The AI follows your rules and sees through the same fog of war, with no hidden bonuses. Builder, aggressor or seafarer.
  • Fair maps. Balanced starts, a mountain for every player, and the richest gold in a contested central range crossed by passes.
  • Play your way. Skirmish against an AI that plays by your rules, a story campaign (in development), or multiplayer built for ranked competition: a deterministic simulation, teams and diplomacy, server-verified matches, and replays you can rewind and watch from any player's view.
  • Choose how a match is won: total conquest, holding most of the land, an economic race, a timed tournament with a transparent score, or free play.

Also

  • Six cultures (in development). Romans first, then Kyivan Rus, Vikings, Sumerians, Japanese and Nubians.
  • Story campaign (in development).
  • Built for big screens. Free 3D camera, 4K and ultrawide, graphics presets from older mid-range cards to high-end GPUs.
  • No pay-to-win. One purchase, ranked play included, no loot boxes.
  • Early Access is planned for 2027.
