The lords of the valley are at each other's throats, bandits hold the old roads, and a farmer at your door has lost five pigs to something nobody saw. Your guild takes the work, at the price you set.
Judge the danger, set the price and post the job. Too cheap and the guild pays for it; too dear and nobody signs.
Your adventurers take the jobs they think they can do, and some of them are wrong. Their report tells you how well you judged.
Applicants lie, oversell themselves or do not know their own worth. They come home tired, hurt or not at all, fall out with each other, and one day hang up their swords.
Every job you take or turn away moves a lord, a merchant house or a bandit company, and the map shows it: a road lost, a hamlet burnt, a flag moved. When two lords go to war, choose a side and watch the other fall. No two guilds begin in the same valley.
Buy rooms, hire staff to run the desk for you, and climb from a back-street outfit to the Crown's own warrant, while rival guilds poach the people you underpay.
