Original Steam description
Build your settlement. Raise your armies. Forge an empire.
Wars of Empire is a 2D isometric real-time strategy game where every empire begins with just five villagers and a Town Center. Gather resources, expand your settlement, research technologies and lead your civilization through four ages of development.
Build mighty fortifications, command armies across land and sea, and conquer rival empires through strategy, economy and siege warfare.

From Village to Empire
Guide your civilization through four distinct ages: Village, Town, City and Empire.
Each age unlocks new buildings, military capabilities and opportunities for expansion. Manage your economy, establish production chains and invest in research to gain an advantage over your rivals.
Discover 91 technologies across multiple buildings. Strengthen your soldiers through blacksmith upgrades, extend the range of defensive towers through university research and shape your strategy through meaningful technological choices.

Command Armies and Wage Siege Warfare
Raise infantry, archers and siege weapons to dominate the battlefield.
Construct defensive walls and gates section by section, reinforce your settlement with three tiers of towers and build powerful castles capable of firing devastating salvos.
Break through enemy fortifications with battering rams, mangonels and springalds. Reach the Empire Age to unlock the trebuchet, a long-range siege weapon capable of outranging any fixed defensive structure.
Organize soldiers into formations, configure their stances and command your armies as cohesive units. Take your battles to the coastline with naval engagements between warships.
Your enemies will not remain idle. Rival AI empires research technologies, establish trade routes, rebuild destroyed structures and wage wars against one another.
21 Playable Civilizations
Choose from 21 civilizations inspired by historical empires and cultures:
Turks, Byzantines, English, Chinese, Huns, Franks, Japanese, Spanish, Vikings, Indians, Germans, Mamluks, Aztecs, Persians, Mali, Maya, Khmer, Ethiopians, Rus, Koreans and Mongols.
Each civilization features its own architectural style, distinctive army composition and unique unit voice set.
Choose your civilization, develop your strengths and adapt your strategy to the challenges of each match.
Multiple Ways to Play
Last Banner: Defeat every rival empire while keeping your own Town Center standing. Expand, defend and conquer until only one empire remains.
The Arena: Jump straight into battle with unlimited resources, Empire Age technologies and armies already deployed.
Golden Age: Focus on economic growth and development objectives in a peaceful alternative to military conquest.
Battle Sandbox: Deploy opposing forces, experiment with army compositions and watch your strategies unfold.
Every Map Is a New Challenge
Explore procedurally generated battlefields with different layouts, terrain conditions and strategic opportunities.
Choose between land, island and mixed maps, with balanced, forested or rocky terrain. Three map sizes range from 90×90 to 254×254 tiles.
Optional geographic rules introduce additional strategic challenges, including inland seas, archipelagos, restricted crossings, concentrated mineral deposits and resource scarcity.
Adapt your expansion, economy and military strategy to the world around you.
A Living, Changing World
The battlefield is more than a static map.
Seasons pass and weather conditions change as your empire develops. Fires can spread through settlements, while disasters and difficult decisions challenge your ability to lead.
Pirate raids threaten coastal territories, trade caravans create opportunities and morale and faith require ongoing attention.
Your decisions determine whether your civilization thrives through changing conditions or struggles to survive.
Challenge Other Commanders Online
Build your own settlement and compete against other players in live multiplayer matches.
A lobby-based system brings commanders together, while individual fog of war keeps enemy movements hidden until discovered.
Host migration is designed to keep battles running if the hosting player disconnects.
Track your performance against AI opponents through a dedicated ranking system. Online match results are recorded separately, with a multiplayer leaderboard planned for a later stage of Early Access.
Create Your Own Battlefields
Design, name and save custom maps using the built-in map editor.
Shape the terrain, create unique environments and use your creations in matches. Experiment with opposing armies in the battle sandbox to test formations, tactics and different approaches to warfare.
Five villagers. Four ages. Twenty-one civilizations. Countless ways to build an empire.
