Beneath the Lanterns, Someone Is Waiting for an Answer

Beyond the Third Watch is a narrative investigation game. This demo follows a complete day-and-night investigation centered on a case of unpaid laborers.

In a fictional ancient city, you will spend the day gathering rumors, organizing clues, and preparing for the investigation ahead. After nightfall, you must plan your route within the limited hours available and decide where to go, what to investigate, and whom to help.

The city will not wait for you.

What begins as a dispute over unpaid wages gradually reveals missing grain, a disappearance, and traces someone intended to conceal. With incomplete information and limited time, you must decide what deserves your attention. You may examine account books, search for witnesses, or respond to a crisis unfolding before you.

You cannot investigate everything, and you cannot change every outcome.

PREPARE BY DAY, PATROL BY NIGHT

• Gather clues through rumors, conversations, and records.

• Choose an investigative direction with limited daytime actions.

• Make judgments from incomplete information rather than search for a single correct answer.

• Plan your time and route during the night patrol.

• Face consequences involving evidence, trust, risk, and the people of the city.

THERE IS NO PERFECT ENDING—ONLY THE CONSEQUENCES YOU ACCEPT

Beyond the Third Watch is not about becoming an all-powerful hero. It is about deciding what deserves your attention when the entire truth remains out of reach.

Some people will receive help. Some events will pass you by.

What the city remembers is the story left behind by your choices.
