You are Gu Gui, a necromancer of the Ghost Path who wakes in a flimsy coffin. Cast spells yourself and bind fallen bodies into skeleton soldiers. Let them charge into enemy lines and guard your back. Shattered skeletons leave piles of bones you can raise again. Your legion starts with a single soldier and grows with every battle.

The Horde Becomes Your Army. The Dead in Their Graves Are Waiting to Come Home.

The zombies in the horde have bodies but no souls; you can only raise them as skeleton soldiers. Those buried in the graves still have their souls. Reclaim the Seal of Return, and you can call them home. A'Cen the blacksmith wakes with the words, "I thought I'd never forge iron again." Lin He the carpenter builds your camp's workshop. Su Ye, Keeper of the Roll, enters every returning name in the Book of Return. The forge burns again, and voices fill the camp once more. Gather the remains you cannot raise, bring them back, and lay them to rest in rows of graves. Little by little, a burial ground becomes a place where someone waits for you.

Play the prologue and the first four chapters: the Boneyard, Greywell, the North Pass and the Fogmire Apothecary. Main and side quests are voiced in Chinese only. Cast Spells. Command Your Legion.

Cast spells on the front line while your legion holds back the horde. Edict: Rise, Edict: March, Soul Bell, Requiem and Ward Charm—every technique changes the battlefield. Yan Zheng's companion story gradually teaches you formations: charge through enemy lines in Arrowhead, or hold firm around your commander in Ring Wall. Switch with a single key.

Defend the Lamps. Breach the Pass. Cleanse the Poison.

At night, the horde surges towards Greywell. Lamps burn at the village entrance, each becoming a target. Defend them, then face the Well-Bound in the dry well. Head north and break through the pass. In front of the watchtower, find a broken saber inscribed with "Yan." Beyond lies the Fogmire, its paths sealed by poison fog. Soul-light is trapped inside three poison lamps; purify them one by one. Along the way, side quests and relics await those who stop to listen to what the dead never finished saying.

Companions

• Lin Yuan—A ranger from Greywell: quick-tongued, quick to laugh, and fond of teasing. She knows every path with her eyes closed.

• Yan Zheng—A saber captain at the North Pass. She died the night it fell, yet her unbroken will held her form together. She wakes with her blade drawn on you, calling you an evil sorcerer who drives the dead. Only after watching the villagers return home, one by one, does she accept you as a comrade.

• Shen Zhi—A physician tending seventeen patients alone at the Fogmire Apothecary. She can tell you have "not a trace of life" in you, yet her first act is to lead you to extinguish the lamps.

Each companion has her own wishes and bonds. More companions will travel with you in the full game.

Story

Gu Gui, a necromancer of the Ghost Path, wakes in a flimsy coffin in a mass burial ground. His headstone reads "Erected by the Lamplight Bureau." The man who buried him was the senior brother he trusted most. The Seal of Return, which guides the souls of the dead back into their bodies, has been stolen and misused. Hordes of corpses now rise across the land. Gu Gui binds the fallen into an army, reclaims the Seal piece by piece, calls home those still waiting in their graves, and rebuilds a home from the ruins.
