About the game

Pilot a boat through fog and swell while something hunts you. Sonar is the only way to see, and every ping draws it closer. Find seven drifting bottles, reach Cape Wrath Light, then try Coast Guard rescues, hurricanes and a sandbox sea.

Original Steam description

A boat-handling survival horror game

Deadrise is set on a dark, fogbound ocean. Every wave you see is a wave your hull has to ride, and in its main mode, Dead Reckoning, something in the water is hunting you.

Dead Reckoning: survive the night

It is always night. Seven bottles are drifting somewhere in the open water, and the fog shows you barely a hundred units in any direction. Navigate by compass, map and memory, collect them all, and Cape Wrath Light becomes your way out.

Sonar lets you see. It also gets you found.

Your sonar is the only way to see beyond the fog. Each pulse surveys the sea floor onto your map and shows what is nearby. But every pulse is loud, and pulses stack. A single ping is survivable. A burst of them is not.

Whatever hunts you does not simply charge. It holds its distance, closes in while you are not looking, and follows the last noise it heard. Run quiet and you can lose it.

Read the sea or it will roll you

The water is not scenery. Shallow ground throws whitewater, rough bars can trap a boat, and the weather keeps shifting. Read the wave faces, manage the throttle and keep your bow clear. The map you build with your sonar is also a map of what will break your boat.

More ways to take the helm

  • Coast Guard: follow an EPIRB signal, recover survivors and tow disabled vessels home.

  • Hurricane Survival: endure a sea that escalates from coastal swell to monster waves.

  • Sandbox: experiment freely with vessels, weather, trim, ballast and the sea itself.

In Deadrise, surviving the sea is only the beginning.
