LIMP MODE

Released

StreetMarkers GamesDiscovered Sep 21, 2026

About the game

A driving survival game with real drift physics and deep tuning. Your car is your life: read fault codes with an OBD scanner, clear them to limp on, cut systems for power. Run the highway where the dead are just bad weather - or hit 20-player drift servers. Built by a real mechanic.

Original Steam description

Your car is in LIMP MODE. So is the World.

LIMP MODE is a car simulation built on real driving physics, real wear and real diagnostics. Tune the look and the engine, remap the ECU, read OBD fault codes. And when the engine light comes on, you don't pray — you plug in a scanner.

Your Mission

Your grandfather is stranded in his summerhouse 1,000 kilometers away. He needs a new engine to drive back home. You are his only hope. Get yourself ready and find a V8 along the way! Be ready for whatever the road throws at you. Play it solo or coop with friends.

Three modes — pick how you want to play

  • HARDCORE MODE (solo or 4p coop):
Full realism for simulation lovers. Cars wear out, leak, overheat and break down — and you fix them yourself, 1,000 km to grandpa. Cracked oil pan? Seal it with 2K glue or swap it. Lost the bumper? Now your radiator is exposed. Nothing on board to fix it? You're done — wake up at your last safe spot and go get your car back. No mistakes forgiven.

  • FUN MODE (solo or 4p coop):
You still got the full realism like in the hardcore mode, but the road is a lot more compact, only 250km to go, you got more money to get started, and if you let your car die, there are easy ways out of those situations. Less punishment, but also fewer achievements and no leaderboards.

  • DRIFT MODE (open servers up to 20p):
Bring the cars you built in Fun or Hardcore to open servers. Drift on tracks from the track editor and set up in your own pit box — it comes with you to every server. Fun and Hardcore cars stay on separate servers.

8 Towns along the Long Road

Out on the highway the dead are just the weather: strays around wrecks, shapes in the headlights. The towns are where you stop. Race the quarter mile and hit the dyno in NEW CREEPS, try your luck at roulette and slots in LOST WAGES, cross the neon scramble in TOKWO, buy your own house in TOWN OF TASTE. People walk the streets — mind your speed. Further up the road the dead creep back in, and CONSTANTIN NOPE belongs to them.

The world opens up as you drive. The first kilometers are quiet. The towns, the shops, the dyno and the casino lie further down the highway. Keep driving.

Co-op for up to 4 players

Run the highway with friends: one drives, one rides shotgun with the scanner, or everyone drives their own car, you choose.

Drift servers — 20 players, your cars, your tracks

Its own multiplayer mode, separate from Fun and Hardcore. Open the server browser, join a public drift session or host your own — private if you want it.

  • Up to 20 players on self-made drift maps, tandems included.

  • Everyone gets their own pit box: lift, storage, and a box you can design yourself and show off.

  • You drive YOUR cars — wreck one drifting, and it stays wrecked in your save until you fix it.

  • Build tracks in the track editor and host sessions on them. Share tracks and box designs with the community.

  • Parts shop and a burger stand right at the pit lane — the meeting point between runs.

The diagnostic scanner is the weapon

Designed by a working car diagnostics technician, the OBD tester is the heart of the game:

  • Read fault codes — know exactly which part is failing instead of guessing.

  • Clear faults — the limp mode gamble: the car runs again NOW, but the fault comes back, and the intervals get shorter every time.

  • Disable systems — software tuning with a price. Kill the emergency modes that are activated because of faulty parts or overheating. Gives you more power, but at what cost?

  • Stage 1, 2, 3, Pops'n'Bangs, Launch Control - you don't really need them. But for whatever reason, you will still use them to destroy your cars faster.

Every intervention is a decision with a cost. Never a no-brainer.

Tuning like in a real shop

Mechanical parts, software stages and body kit — lift kits, wheel and track-width setups, paint, tint, and pieces you'll be glad you bolted on when the horde closes in. The ECU tool adds launch control and pops & bangs: read the car, change the map, write it back.

Your cars are really yours

A personal garage that follows you into co-op and drift: your own cars, each with its service book and odometer. Damage, tuning, mileage — it all travels with the car, no matter whose game you're in. Find a car in the world, register it, and it's yours for good. Fun and Hardcore keep separate garages.

A car that breaks like a real car

  • Parts wear out, take damage, can be stripped from wrecks — used parts come with used condition.

  • Hit a rock and crack your oil pan? It drips in real time, leaves a slick under the car, and the puddle on the road is slippery.

  • No radiator? Fine — until the temperature gauge says otherwise.

  • Weak battery, horde incoming, key turning slowly: that sound is the whole game in one moment.

BEFORE YOU BUY - READ THIS

  • Made by one person. LIMP MODE is a solo project by a working car diagnostics technician, former tuning shop operator and real-life drifter. Expect indie scope, not a big studio production.

  • AI IS ONE OF MY MAIN TOOLS. As a solo developer I use AI for some character voices, the radio songs and parts of the art and audio. If you're not a fan of AI, this game might not be right for you.

  • The driving physics, the car systems, the diagnostics, the tuning and every balance value are designed, tuned and built by hand.
