The job is answering angry people

The customer is yelling, the platform is counting how many strikes you've got left, and your boss is reading yesterday's numbers. All you have is a reply box and a budget that doesn't quite cover everyone.

Review Responder is the story of one small store's customer service desk. The task sounds easy: answer the bad reviews. The hard part is still having a store tomorrow.

Every round, a new complaint

First you have to figure out what this person actually wants — a real refund, or just someone to admit fault. Then you decide how to handle it:

  • send one of the suggested replies, edited to your liking

  • write your own, every word of it on you

  • say nothing. Some reviews cool off on their own. Some don't.

The numbers you're watching

  • Cash Flow — refunds, replacements and coupons all come out of here. Hit zero and the business breaks.

  • Rating — the store's face to the world. Let it slide and the organic traffic goes with it.

  • Risk Control — how much patience the platform has left. Stalling, empty promises and public arguments all push it up, and at 100 the store is shut.

  • Boss Satisfaction — decides whether this month brings you backing or a talk.

  • Growth Stage — from startup through to crisis. The further in, the heavier a single review weighs.

These numbers rarely move the same way. A sincere apology calms a customer and can still read to your boss as money down the drain. The trade-off is yours to make.

One reply is really three choices

Every reply is assembled from three parts: how you open (from a soft apology to a flat refusal), what you offer (from a full refund to "here's the policy"), and how you close (from a 48-hour deadline to an open-ended "message me any time").

Each part has its own temperature. Being blunt shuts down a professional complainer, and it can also walk an anxious parent straight into a formal complaint. Reply long enough and the store grows a personality — gentle, professional, tough, or a little of everything. That personality gets counted at the ending.

Customers are not one kind of person

Customers come in all kinds, and each kind talks its own way: the principled one, the sarcastic one, the one who comes armed with evidence, the one making jokes, the one applying pressure, the one asking the same question three times out of anxiety.

Hand two of them the same "doesn't match the listing" and the spec-checker sends you three comparison screenshots, while someone else just writes "it looks nothing like the photo." Some want an apology. Some are waiting for you to offer a coupon. Some open with "I'm filing a complaint."

Bosses and platforms have tempers too

Bosses have their own sets of triggers too. Ms. Zhang pats your shoulder and tells you to take your time. Boss Wang wants results and doesn't soften it. Director Liu smiles and asks, "what do you think?"

The platforms shift too. EasyBuy is watching for slow responses, PinXiXi lets a bad review travel fast, and TaoTao Select is in the middle of a quality crackdown — go in hard there and you've basically walked into the line of fire.

One card left to play each round

Attach the inspection record, get the manufacturer involved, send the size chart, link the official spec sheet, throw in a compensation coupon. These one-off plays can save the round, but they all cost money and time. Use them early and you've wasted them; hold on to them and you may run out of round.

How it ends

  • Perfect Run — rating and cash both holding steady

  • Velvet Knife / Iron Fist — whichever style you actually stuck with

  • The Middle Way — no glory, but the store survived

  • Cash Crunch, Reputation Collapse, Platform Ban, Pulled Funding, Missed Targets, Total Loss of Control
