About the game
It is a psychological horror survival game with a millennium-era Chinese dreamcore aesthetic. You play as a night guard in an old residential compound, defending against the "unspeakable things" that wander the late-night hours—all while staring at a flickering, snow-filled monitor.
Original Steam description
Congratulations! You've been hired as a night security guard.
Your new workplace is a slightly run-down residential complex. The facilities are showing their age, there aren't many residents, and occasionally, a few things happen that no one can quite explain.
But don't worry. It's just an ordinary job.
Your responsibilities are simple: stay in the security office, monitor the surveillance cameras, follow the workplace rules, and clock out at 6:00 AM every morning.
At least, that's what the job listing said.
Welcome to Your New Job
Midnight Watch is a first-person horror game that combines Chinese psychological horror, rule-based supernatural mysteries, and surveillance-based survival gameplay.
Set in an aging Chinese residential complex around the turn of the millennium, the game immerses you in a world of dim incandescent lights, flickering black-and-white CCTV monitors, walls plastered with outdated propaganda slogans, and a cramped, isolated security office.
For the next seven nights, this will be your entire world.
You have no weapons, and no way to fight back against whatever lurks in the darkness.
All you have is an outdated surveillance system, a few lights that could fail at any moment, a stack of mysterious Taoist talismans, a wooden fish percussion block, and a flimsy metal locker barely large enough to hide inside.
The good news? These things might just keep you alive.
The bad news? They might also get you killed.
Key Features
Authentic Y2K Chinese Retro Aesthetics: Gritty, lo-fi rendering, bulky CRT monitors with curved screens and visible scanlines, and the oppressive atmosphere of an aging Chinese residential complex in the early 2000s. Step into a world that feels both strangely nostalgic and deeply unsettling.
Deep Psychological Horror: Rather than relying on cheap jump scares, Midnight Watch features a dynamic Panic System that distorts your vision and hearing as your mental state deteriorates, creating an immersive descent into psychological collapse.
Uniquely Chinese Survival Mechanics: Calm your nerves by striking a traditional wooden fish, or burn Tao
