Description d’origine sur Steam

Night Cart is built around exploration, uncertainty, and learning through failure. Inspired by Eternal Ring, King’s Field, and Shadow Tower, it follows a personal design philosophy: trust the player to observe, experiment, and find their own way. Night Cart asks for patience and sustained attention, with little to no hand holding. Expect to get lost, get stuck, and fail often. Directions, and goals are represented in item descriptions, dialogue and character barks.

Read what you find, pay attention to your surroundings, and reconsider your approach when something doesn’t work. Understanding the world and its systems is part of the adventure, and the satisfaction comes from discoveries and victories you work out for yourself.

The plague has consumed Transylvania.

It’s 1619. The plague has emptied villages, barricaded churches, and turned once-busy roads into lonely trails haunted by soldiers, outlaws, and whispers of the dead.

You are a humble cart driver hired by Nera, a mysterious immortal woman answering a summons from her creator, Count Saint Germain. Together, you’ll travel the moonlit roads of 1619 Transylvania, venturing deeper into a land where every crossroads, ruined chapel, forgotten mill, and abandoned homestead tells the story of a world falling apart.

Leave the safety of your cart and venture into forgotten places, hidden laboratories, ruined forts, caves, cemeteries, and abandoned settlements. Explore in first person, search for weapons and useful items, uncover journals and environmental clues, and face dangerous encounters using swords, firearms, alchemical tools, and the environment itself.

Travel at your own pace through a handcrafted gothic landscape built around exploration and discovery. Follow the main road toward your objective or leave it entirely to find hidden paths, optional locations, powerful equipment, strange characters, and dangerous encounters. Major areas can be approached in different orders, and curiosity often leads to something worth finding.

Can you uncover the truth behind the plague... and the woman riding beside you?

  • Use your horse-drawn cart to travel between roads, ruins, settlements, and wilderness, stopping wherever curiosity leads you.

  • Travel with Nera, an immortal companion who fights alongside you, comments on the world, and reacts to your journey. Equip her with swords, guns, daggers or even a giant bastard sword!

  • Explore interconnected roads, wilderness, ruins, caves, churches, cemeteries, laboratories, and other hidden locations, each with its own enemies, discoveries, and rewards.

  • Fight deliberate, dangerous encounters in first person using charged melee attacks, firearms, alchemical tools, movement, and the environment itself.

  • Choose when to fight, when to move past danger, and how deeply to explore. Use consumables, your horse, explosive objects, terrain, and your equipment to turn encounters in your favor.

  • Apply potions to your weapons and create devastating combinations.

  • Challenge powerful enemies and bosses guarding key locations, then use what you discover to push farther into the region.

  • Meet memorable characters, uncover environmental stories, and piece together the mystery surrounding Count Saint Germain and Nera.

  • Immerse yourself in a haunting atmosphere inspired by Romanian history, folklore, and gothic horror.

Night Cart blends retro-inspired visuals, oppressive darkness, and atmospheric exploration into a world shaped by isolation, superstition, and decay. The game is designed to adapt to both modern and retro setups, with support for 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, and ultra-wide displays.

  • Flexible display support: 4:3, 16:9, 16:10, and ultra-wide.

  • Complete input customization: Full keyboard, mouse, and controller rebinding.

  • Xbox and PlayStation controller support.

  • Adjustable presentation: Toggle optional filters, animations, camera effects, HUD elements, and other visual features.

  • Scalable interface for different screen sizes and viewing distances.

Take your cart into the haunted wilds of Transylvania, wherever you are. Night Cart was developed for and with the Steam Deck in mind, running at 60 FPS through most of our testing, with dips to around 38–40 FPS in the busiest areas.

The interface is built for controller navigation, making it easy to manage your inventory, navigate menus, and command Nera using the Deck’s controls. With a scalable UI and customizable controls, you can settle in for a gothic adventure from the comfort of your couch or take it on the road.

Inspired by classic immersive shooters, gothic horror, and old Eastern European legends.
