About the game

Misplaced is a historical detective puzzle game about sorting case files and uncovering hidden connections. Read letters, witness statements, and official records, figure out where each document belongs, and piece together the truth behind a murder case inspired by real events.

Original Steam description

A Murder Buried in the Archives

Italy, 1893. A prominent nobleman is murdered aboard a train bound for Palermo.

After years of investigations and trials, the case remains unresolved. With a retrial approaching, someone breaks into the court archives and tampers with the case files.

You are one of the judges assigned to the case. But before your investigation can begin, you're attacked and knocked unconscious.

When you wake up, there's a dead body lying beside you.

Who attacked you? Who is the victim? And how is any of this connected to the murder all those years ago?

Every Document Has Its Place

Private letters, witness statements, newspaper articles, official records... The archives are filled with documents waiting to be sorted.

Read carefully and use the clues on each filing slot to figure out where every document belongs.

A name, a date, or even a seemingly insignificant detail in a witness statement could be the key.

Find the Hidden Connections

Filing the documents is only the first step.

Details that seem unrelated may be connected. Two witnesses might contradict each other. An old letter might change how you understand the entire case.

Look for clues scattered across different documents and gradually piece together what really happened.

The Trial Awaits

Misplaced is inspired by a real murder case from late 19th-century Italy.

As the evidence comes together, the case will return to court.

And you will witness the final trial.
