Burrowlings

Coming soon

About the game

Grow four tiny hard-hatted burrowlings into a swarm of over a hundred and dig to the planet's core before the oil lamp burns out. A short incremental game: spend the gold in a web of upgrades, dig again, deeper. Solo, or online in co-op and versus, where a block of ice freezes a rival's shaft.

Original Steam description

Four tiny burrowlings in hard hats. One oil lamp hanging over the shaft. Straight down, a very long way down, the planet's core.

Picks swing, the rock cracks, the floor drops and gold spills out. But the lamp is burning. When it goes out, the dig is over. Spend the gold, send them back down, and get a little deeper every time.

Every dig, the crew grows. Diggers with picks. Drillers grinding on their rigs. Bombers lobbing from wooden decks up the walls. Your clicks smash the rubble at their feet. Start with four. Finish with well over a hundred, all under one little lamp.

Clicks? A crowd so big you never need to click? Bombs? Drills? All of it? The upgrades are a web with no right path through it. Take a road all the way and the dig changes: FRENZY! CHAIN! WILDFIRE! COLD SNAP! Pair two roads and they work as one. Nothing tells you what to buy. Working that out is the game.

Dirt, stone, granite, crystal, magma. And four walls in the way: a gas seam where unmasked miners pass out, a frozen wall, pitch darkness and a lava flow. Your swarm has to be built for each one. Poison and Dark diggers, Fire and Ice drillers and bombers are all for hire. Who handles which wall? Go and find out.

Something is waiting down there. It bursts out of the wall, sweeps the floor and sends your diggers flying. You'll probably lose the first fight. Good. Come back stronger and crush it to find out what the core really is. Then do it all again in fewer digs, for the leaderboard.

Up to 4 players online. In co-op, your crews share one shaft and dig it down together. In versus, your shafts sit side by side in one slab of earth. Falling behind? Drag a block of ice onto a deeper rival's shaft. Their diggers freeze, and their lamp burns twice as fast.

A short game, made to be finished: about 2-3 hours to the end, at x1, x2 or x3 speed. Toy-like diggers with ink outlines, warm lamplight in the dark, and a score for stone xylophone, harmonium and upright bass, built on one four-note tune:

Dig, dig, dig, DIG.
