Valdrin

You don't command your people. You govern them.

Valdrin is a low-fantasy kingdom sim where you never control a single subject directly. You set the laws, wages, and decrees they live under. They choose where to work, what to study, whom to love, and when they've had enough.

The crown sends you to tame an untapped frontier, and the bill comes with you. Pay off the charter, meet the royal mandates, and grow a foothold into a living society, or gather enough strength to declare independence. Every subject has a name, a family, a faith, and a breaking point.

Prosperity and collapse are both one bad decree away.

Govern a living society

• Indirect control - Open positions and set wages; subjects apply, quit, or leave for better work. You steer the system, not the hands.

• Many races - Humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, minotaurs, giants and more, each with its own strengths, trades, and prejudices.

• Emergent lives - Subjects are born, form households, pass down surnames, gossip, grow old, and die. Their stories live on in your chronicles.

• Schooling and ambition - The young choose a trade by its wages and reputation. Fund stipends, charge fees, or decree compulsory schooling.

• Faith and dissent - Rival religions spread through belief and incentive. Send missionaries, hold inquisitions, or let heresy take root.

Build an economy that fights back

• Regional markets - Every province trades as its own market. Prices react to gluts, shortages, and merchants chasing the difference.

• Real coin - Coins are worth their metal plus trust in the faction that minted them. Debase a currency, or watch one collapse with its issuer.

• Death and taxes - Wages, tariffs, crown levies, and the ever-tightening grip of royal bureaucracy.

Defend your realm

• Raise retinues - Recruit soldiers and archers, form battle lines, and answer raids from factions who despise you.

• Conquest - March on rival provinces to plunder or seize them, until a whole faction falls.

• Adventurers and quests - Back wandering heroes, send them on quests, and raise them into legends.

• Justice - Imprison, exile, or execute outlaws and traitors, and live with the consequences.
