About the game

Climb up, lay clay tiles row by row and watch the light change over the village. Roof by Roof is a cozy first-person roofing game: lay patterns for rewards, take on roofing orders and grow from apprentice to roofing legend, all at your own pace.

Original Steam description

One roof, one row, one tile at a time

Roof by Roof is a calm, first-person game about tiling roofs. Take a stack of tiles from the yard, carry it up the ladder and lay it row by row, from the eaves to the ridge. Each tile settles onto the battens with a soft clack, and the roof slowly comes together under your hands. When it's done, take a moment: the view from up there is the reward.

What's in the job

  • Real roofing, gently – tiles overlap and stagger like a real roof, and simply won't snap where they don't belong
  • Out with the old – break off worn tiles with a click and watch them slide off the edge
  • Finishing touches – cap the ridge and the corners, and close the tiles up round chimneys and roof windows
  • Ladders and scaffolding – hook a roof ladder over the ridge for steep slopes, or put up scaffold towers with their own tile stacks
  • Patterns that pay – stripes, checkerboards, diamonds, fades and a few secrets: 76 roof challenges in all
  • Upgrades and rewards – spend nails on a bigger load, quicker hands, rapid laying and boots for steeper roofs, and unlock hand-painted tiles
  • Career and Roofing Orders – nine roofs that teach the trade, then endless orders with a design to follow, at Easy, Medium or Hard

Somewhere lovely to work

A village in the fields, a quiet lakeside, a mountain valley or the cobbled streets of an old town, in any season, winter snow included. The day never stops: morning mist, golden hour, and a night of stars and street lamps.

At your own pace

Nothing fails and nobody falls. Play with keyboard and mouse or a gamepad, hide the HUD in photo mode, and turn on colour-blind colours, tile symbols, larger text or reduced motion. In 12 languages, with saves kept in Steam Cloud.
