Use genres, trailers and playable demos to find indie games that match your taste without relying on a popularity ranking.
Describe the experience, not just the genre
Indie covers many different kinds of games. Narrow your search with a concrete preference: a puzzle you can pause, a combat loop you want to master, or a world you want to explore. Use a category as a starting point, then read the short description to understand what you actually do in the game.
Use the trailer to ask better questions
A trailer can show the camera, pace and visual style. Look for the interaction you will repeat most often, and distinguish gameplay footage from cinematic scenes. Hover previews on supported devices can help you compare several cards quickly. If no playable trailer is available, open the game page for screenshots and its Steam link.
Use demos to test your own priorities
If a demo exists, use it to check the things a description cannot settle: how movement feels, how readable the interface is, or whether a puzzle explanation makes sense to you.
